The Coin of This Realm
by Quinn
This story mostly tells itself as Dave documented it in email form. However, at the end, you can see how he responded when questioned on it.
Observations:
The prophecy is emphatic: This morning, I was awakened out of a deep sleep with a message planted on my brain.
The prophecy is confirmed by whoever the “most reliable prophet” Dave knows is.
The core message is clear: “The coin of this realm will be damaged.”
The phrase beginning “Only those who believe…” feels a bit manipulative.
Observations:
Dave’s community seems to also confirm this false prophecy.
People are clearly making personal financial decisions as a result.
While Dave dials back the urgency, he doubles down on the divine source: “When the Lord gave me the message…”
Side note:
If God really did tell someone to send this message out immediately, it would seem pretty reasonable to conclude that something is happening soon. That doesn’t seem like a leap to me.

Sometime in 2024, I asked Dave when he had ever been wrong about a prophecy. He said he could not remember any time.
At some point I remembered this prophecy and looked into the email record. I questioned Dave about it on March 17, 2025. Instead of admitting he was wrong, he cited Jonah’s prophecy to Nineveh as an example of a real prophecy that was not literally fulfilled.
Let’s look at the Jonah case.
Jonah 3:4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”
Jonah 3:5 ¶ Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them.
Jonah 3:6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.
Jonah 3:7 He issued a proclamation and it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.
Jonah 3:8 “But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.
Jonah 3:9 “Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish.”
Jonah 3:10 ¶ When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.
In the Jonah case, the people of Nineveh repented. There’s an actual real world event that explains why God relented. In the case of Dave’s prophecy, he has nothing to point to to explain why God would’ve changed His mind. It’s just a theoretical possibility.
I asked him if he had ever made prophetic predictions of world events before. I told him it would be significant if he had been right 9 times and wrong just this once. He said he had not.
I would be mortified if I had delivered this prophecy and then watched as time ticked on and nothing happened. I would want to know if anyone made harmful personal financial decisions based on it. I would profusely apologize and then refrain from ever giving someone a prophecy that could influence their personal life decisions, financial or otherwise. Why does none of this occur to Dave?
